What's the difference between IGS and FBX?

IGS CAD Exchange is igs extension for iges — initial graphics exchange specification. FBX 3D Model is autodesk exchange format for 3d models with animation. Key difference: IGS CAD Exchange excels at same as IGES with shortened file extension, while FBX 3D Model offers rich animation, rigging and morph target support.

How does the IGS to FBX conversion work technically?

What happens to my files after conversion?
