Drop an M4A file above — an iPhone voice memo, a GarageBand export or an iTunes track without DRM — and download an MP3 that plays in any player, car stereo or app. Converted on your device.
Why convert M4A to MP3?
M4A is an MPEG-4 audio file, usually AAC. Apple devices use it everywhere, but some car stereos, older MP3 players, transcription services and upload forms only accept MP3.
How it works
1. Drop the M4A.
2. Choose the MP3 bitrate: 192 kbps default; 96–128 kbps is fine for voice memos.
3. Download the MP3.
M4A vs MP3
M4A (AAC): slightly more efficient than MP3 — similar quality at a lower bitrate. Great support on Apple and Android, weaker on older hardware.
MP3: older, universal. Every player since the 1990s reads it.
Quality notes
AAC to MP3 is a lossy-to-lossy conversion, so a little quality is lost; at 192 kbps it is inaudible for typical listening. Purchased tracks protected by DRM (old .m4p files) cannot be converted.
Common use cases
Sending iPhone Voice Memos to people or services that want MP3; playing Apple audio in a car stereo; submitting recordings to podcast hosts and transcription tools.
